Performance and Theater
I have made theater, dance, and music since I was a child. I earned a B.A. in Theater from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Art from Columbia College Chicago. While studying at the University of Illinois, I was privileged to train with Valeryi Romanovich Beliakovich and other artists from the Theater of Moscow South-West. In 1993-94 I worked as an actor in the Theatre of Moscow South-West, performing in Russian. After returning to the US, I built an interdisciplinary performance practice of site-specific, movement-based solo and collaborative performance art that often addresses a political issue; text-based works; percussive music, singing, and gender performance. I write and devise performances and I also continue to work as a professional actor, mover, and singer.
Ezell: Ballad of a Land Man: I’ve been involved in this project in many ways since 2015. 2019-2022 I performed as guide, somatic portal facilitator, singer, & musician. Conceived & performed by Bob Martin, directed by Nick Slie, and produced by Carrie Brunk. Read more about the project here via Clear Creek Creative’s website.
